Sharing the Teacher's Experiences



These days, there are many ways to study at school. Recently, I have experienced how to be a teacher or lecturer in a class. In a general way, students usually think that teacher only needs to speak and explain the lesson in the class, without any other teaching instruments. I finally realized that there are many things to be prepared before a good teacher teaches at the class. They need to make a lesson plan, at least a rough design about the materials. They also need to plan the time application so that there is no time to waste. Moreover, a good teacher should prepare another plan if there is an emergency situation like time cutting or how to manage a noisy class who don’t want to listen to a teacher’s lecture and how to make the lecture interesting.
Last month, my class was assigned to become a spontaneous teacher. We must prepare those things above, but it’s not as complex as a teacher’s degree. We were given the history subject to teach. For science students, history is one of the most boring subject at school. We usually don’t take it too much, but that day this was our challenge. In other hand, we were “smashed” because lastly we always complain about our history teacher, but after this project we understand that to teach certain subject is not as easy as turning our hands.
Luckily, we were given an enough time to prepare this challenge and our teacher also guide us to make the preparation. First of all, we were assigned to make the lesson plan. We must choose our subtopic. My friend and I choose the Pacific War topic to be discussed. Then, we must make an outline of our teaching, like when the Pacific War started,

or how did the Pacific War begin and ended, or what was the reason to begin this war, etc. Next, we made our minute schedule. It includes our time distribution in class. What should we do in our attendance like greetings and a little ice breaking. We also made a little game to make the class more interesting. We also need to write the game rules on the lesson plan.
Finally, the time has come for us to teach. Many of us still uncertain about the best way to explain the lesson. We still do a lot of mistakes at the first. There were a lot of little things that we even don’t consider occurs in the time we teach. One said that experience is the best teacher. We learn by the process so we can learn our friend mistakes and try to avoid the same mistakes. By the time, there were many improvements that other group made. Some can make a good looking power point, some can make a good interesting game, other buy some presents like snacks and even housewares.
 When the time comes for my group, we already bought some simple gift and made some revision, hoping that our teaching are better. Then, we must teach outside the class because the lights were off. We just simply gave a simple module which was wrapped in a big brown envelope. We try to make our students to share what they got after read those papers. We also gave them some pictures to help them. Nevertheless, I think it didn’t work out well because our friends already fed up about this program. But that’s okay, because we can experienced directly how did it feel to be a teacher, especially history teacher.

ds are good for us high school students and we were aware about those matters. The good thing is that my friends are even better at the classroom. Now, they are less noisy but I think it just for a short period. But at least we truly understand how hard it is to handle an active class like my class here. As a youngster, we need a new and friendly methods to learn at the school. However, this experience is memorable for me as a senior high school student. I hope there will be another creative method like this “teaching” in the future.
